CORTA (AM Cortisol)- Collection time 7am- 9am
"Routine venipuncture Collect one 4.5ml light green top (heparin) tube or one 5ml Red/gold top serum separator tube"


Specimen Stability
Centrifuge specimen within 2 hours of collection. 
Specimen should be tested ASAP or refrigerated if not tested ASAP.
Specimen is stable refrigerated up to 72 hours after centrifugation.


Reject Criteria (Eg, hemolysis? Lipemia? Thaw/Other?)
Specimen collected at incorrect time


Methodology
Competitive immunoassay:The amount of HRP conjugate bound is indirectly proportional to the concentration of cortisol present.

Clinical Significance
Cortisol is increased in Cushing disease and decreased in Addison disease (adrenal insufficiency).
