This immunometric immunoassay is performed on an Ortho Vitros XT7600.  Different testing methods should not be used interchangeably, particularly in serial monitoring, as results can vary due to differences in assay methods or reagent specificity.

Instructions
Routine venipuncture. One 5ml Red/gold top serum separator tube.


Specimen Stability
Allow specimen to clot then centrifuge and refrigerate immediately, keep specimen refrigerated.
Stable 7 days refrigerated.

Clinical Significance
The CA 125 level can provide prognostic information in the follow-up management of patients with ovarian carcinoma. The assay should be used as an adjunctive test in the management of ovarian cancer patients. CA 125 is not recommended as a cancer screening procedure to detect cancer in the general population.
