Routine venipuncture, sterile phlebotomy technique
Adults and older children: 20 mL whole blood
• 10 mL of blood into one Bactec® Plus/F aerobic (gray label)
• 10 mL of blood into one Bactec® Lytic/F anaerobic bottle (lavender)
Infants and hardsticks (=3 mL of blood obtained)
• Peds Plus bottle (pink label)
For other blood volume draw:
• >3-10 mL blood: Inoculate Bactec® aerobic bottle only
• =11 mL blood: Inoculate 10 mL into Bactec® aerobic bottle and balance into Bactec® anaerobic bottle
