Instructions
Routine venipuncture. 7 ml Blood in pink top (EDTA) tube (preferred) or 4 ml blood in lavender top (EDTA) tube and 7-10 ml blood in red top, no-additive clot tube.


Specimen Stability
Refrigerate, stable 48 hours.


Reject Criteria (Eg, hemolysis? Lipemia? Thaw/Other?)
Improperly labeled specimen; gross hemolysis or lipemia; container damaged and leaking; improper transport (too hot/partially frozen red cells); insufficient quantity; specimen older than 48 hours unrefrigerated

Clinical Significance
Antibody identification studies determine the specificity and significance of RBC antibodies. This information is important when selecting donor units for transfusion and for monitoring potential cases of HDN (hemolytic disease of the newborn).
