[Tg method (IMA or RIA) will be determined by the lab based on TgAb status]
Thyroglobulin antibody (TgAb) testing is performed on all samples. If TgAb is negative, serum thyroglobulin is measured by a sensitive IMA with a relatively rapid turnaround time. If TgAb is positive, serum thyroglobulin is measured by an RIA method. This RIA is resistant to interference by TgAb but has a longer turnaround time. All patient samples are archived and measure alongside current and past specimens.

2 mL serum collected in Plain red top tubes preferred

Instructions
Allow blood to clot for at least 30 minutes at room temperature. DO NOT let whole blood remain at room temperature longer than two hours before centrifuging. After a 15- minute centrifugation, transfer only the serum (upper yellow-clear liquid) to a separate plastic tube.

Note: For long-term storage, freezing samples at -10 to -20°C is preferred. Repeat thawing and freezing of samples does not influence values if there are no losses due to evaporation.

Reject Criteria: QNS and leaking specimens.
Methodology
Tg Total is measure by a USC proprietary radioimmunoassay resistant to TgAb and THAb interference.
