Message
If a Rapid Onset Evaluation (ROSE) is clinically indicated, a cytotechnologist and pathologist must be present to evaluate specimen.
 
Specimen can also be collected without a ROSE and submitted to cytology laboratory

Preferred Specimen
Collect: CytoLyt Fixative Collection Cup, or sterile cup 
RPMI if clinical concern for lymphoma


Instructions
If ROSE is to be performed, it is preferable if the procedure is scheduled in advance by phone at 304-293-2095 to ensure cytology availability.
Call cytology to procedure when patient is in procedure room and sedated (if applicable)  
If unassisted, perform FNA, express cell yield and rinse needle in CytoLyt fixative collection cup. Put each site in separate collection cups and label each one with patient’s name and source of specimen. If there is clinical concern for lymphoma, submit a portion of the specimen in RPMI for flow cytometry.

Note: While procedures can be scheduled up until 16:30, the cytologists are not available after 17:00. If the procedure continues past 17:00, the specimen is to be collected in fixative.
