Reference Range
Ninety-nine percent of pregnant women "with" signs and symptoms of preterm delivery who test NEGATIVE for fetal fibronectin "do not" deliver within the next 14 days. A POSITIVE fetal fibronection result is the single best indicator of impending delivery. In women "without" symptoms who are at high risk for preterm delivery (carrying twins, previous preterm delivery, or with other risk factors for preterm delivery), the fetal fibronectin test is able to define those individuals likely (or not likely) to deliver before 37 weeks gestation. Asymptom women who are fetal fibronection POSTIVE have about a 50% chance of preterm delivery. Those who are fetal fibronection NEGATIVE are much less likely (about 8%chance) to deliver before 37 weeks gestation. Automatically called result: Positive
