Preferred Specimen
Specimen types include: BAL, Bronch Wash, Nasal aspirate, Nasal Swab, Nasal Wash, NP Aspirate, NP wash, NP swab, throat gargle,
tracheal aspirate, tracheal wash and sputum.
NOTE: Nasopharyngeal (NP) swabs are no longer an acceptable specimen for NLR only.

Minimum Volume
Nasal swab and NP swab: 2 mL
All other specimen types: 0.5 mL

Instructions
For fluids: Collect in a sterile, screw top tube.
For swabs: Place sterile swab in 2 mL sterile saline, M4, or viral transport media in a sterile screw top tube.
Do not use calcium alginate swab or wood shafted swab.
