Preferred Specimen
Urine, catheter, or clean catch in a sterile container - preferably in a BD vacutainer urine gray top tube.


Minimum Volume
0.3 µL


Other Acceptable Specimens
Specimens labeled: kidney urine, supra-pubic bladder or bladder tap (BTU) urine, nephrostomy, cystoscopy, urostomy, ileal conduit urine, or drainage are not processed like a routine UC/UCRFLX. Please see the media lab document Special Urine Culture for appropriate specimen collection, specimen stability, order code (CS/AC or FLDC), and setup procedure.

Refrigerated: 48 hours

Non-preserved specimens:
Room Temperature: 4 hours
Refrigerated: 24 hours


Reject Criteria (Eg, hemolysis? Lipemia? Thaw/Other?)
Non-sterile containers, external contamination (leaking containers, etc.), and foley cath tips should all be rejected. If a physician insists upon a foley cath tip being cultured, setup using the superficial wound culture procedure.
