Test CodeLAB0077
Alias/See Also
1233101000
CPT Codes
0026U
Includes
THYROSEQ - THYROID GENOMIC CLASSIFIER (TGC)
Preferred Specimen
Thyroid Fine Needle Aspiration (FNA) with ThyroSeqPreserv solution vial
Instructions
Collection Procedure: (1) Label the CytoRich Red FNA container and ThyroSeq vial with two patient identifiers and specimen site. (2) Place the first FNA pass in the CytoRich Red FNA container. (3) Place a full second FNA pass into the ThyroSeqPreserv solution vial. (4) Secure the ThyroSeqPreserv solution vial tube cap and invert to mix. Place the tube in the dark bag with a flat frozen ice pack. (5) Place subsequent FNA passes in the CytoRich Red FNA container. (6) Package both the FNA and ThyroSeqPresev solution vial together for transport Fixation: FNA CytoRich Red + ThyroSeqPreserv solution vial Causes for Rejection: Missing patient identifiers, mislabelled specimens, expired fixative / wrong fixative, specimen stability exceeded, or quantity insufficient.

Clinical Significance
The primary application of ThyroSeq is to provide accurate cancer diagnosis in thyroid nodules with indeterminate FNA cytology Cytology (Bethesda categories III, IV, and V) +ThyroSeq« Thyroid Genomic Classifier (GC) is a molecular test specifically designed to determine if a thyroid nodule is benign (not cancer) or malignant (cancer) when cytology result is indeterminate. Uncertain risk of cancer in thyroid nodules with indeterminate FNA cytology (Bethesda categories III, IV, and V) hampers clinical management of these patients. ThyroSeq« stratifies these nodules into those that are likely benign and may be observed and those that are likely malignant and require surgical management. Reference Interval: Negative - low probability of malignancy CPT code used with ThyroSeq is - 0026U - Oncology (Thyroid), DNA and MRNA of 112 Genes.
