Important! In order to test for C. difficile, the specimen must conform to the shape of the container. If the specimen contains only formed stool, do not collect it. If the specimen contains formed stool, it could identify patients who are colonized but not infected with C. difficile, leading to unnecessary treatment. Stool in a sterile screw top container without preservatives
