Autologous Blood Products

Message

Hospitals will only accept autologous blood products in special circumstances with lab Pathology approval. For example, when a patient has antibody(ies) to make finding compatible blood difficult. For test ordering information on autologous blood products, please refer to the following tests: Transfuse PRBC's (Type and Cross) and Transfuse Platelets. Detailed information on recommendations for transfusion can be found in the "AABB Circular of Information for the Use of Human Blood and Blood Components" located on the AABB web site (link below).
