Specimen should be delivered to lab STAT


Specimen Stability
Storage Temperature: Ambient: 2 hours
Refrigerated (2-8°): up to 24 hours
Frozen : Do not freeze
Stability after Collection: Specimens should be analyzed within 2 hours of collection.
40% of leukocytes may lyse after 2 hours at room temp. Refrigerate if testing will be
delayed. If refrigerated, bring to room temp prior to testing.

Clinical Significance
A body fluid cell count is the quantitative study of erythrocytes and nucleated cells in cerebrospinal fluid, serous fluids,
synovial fluids, and other body fluids to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of trauma, infection, malignancy, and various
other diseases.
