Instructions
Recommend collection in a 21 gauge needle to reduce chance of hemolysis. Send 1ml refrigerated EDTA plasma. LIPEMIC samples will be rejected.


Transport Temperature
Ambient if testing perfomed on-site.
Refrigerated if being sent to BUMCP or BUMCT.


Specimen Stability
Whole blood must be spun within 2 hours of collection. Add-ons are not permitted beyond this time frame.

Clinical Significance
Plasma hemoglobin is a measure of circulating red blood cell destruction and is considered to be the basic indicator of intravascular hemolysis.
