Clinical Significance
Malaria is the most common infectious disease in the world. Proper therapy depends upon identification of the specific variety of malaria parasite. Release of trophozoites and RBC debris result in a febrile response. Organisms are more likely to be detected just immediately upon onset of fever, therefore sampling immediately upon onset of fever with a strong clinical history may prove successful.
