TEG 6s Heparin Neutralization
MessagePerformed in Coagulation only at BUMCP
BUMCP ONLY: Samples may be transported through the pneumatic tube system however you must call 839-3471 PRIOR to collection. Send the sample at room temperature immediately after collection. Place a green TEG slip in the sample bag to ensure priority handling. If you transport by hand to the Laboratory, ensure you deliver directly to Coagulation.

Test Code
TEG6sHN
Preferred Specimen
NaCit light blue top tube
Whole blood collected in a 3.2% Sodium Citrate tube - FULL TUBE required.
Whole blood collected in a 3.2% Sodium Citrate tube - FULL TUBE required.
Instructions
For samples drawn by venipuncture, use a 21-gauge needle. The first 3 mL of blood should not be used for TEG testing due to the possible contaminants in the sample during normal phlebotomy. Draw a discard tube if the only sample being drawn will be for TEG testing.
Transport at room temperature immediately after collection. DO NOT CENTRIFUGE.

Specimen Stability
Test within 10 minutes to 2 hours of collection
Reject Criteria (Eg, hemolysis? Lipemia? Thaw/Other?)
Whole blood samples not collected in a 3.2% sodium citrate tube
Underfilled or overfilled
Expired tube
Clotted specimens
Samples contaminated with tissue contaminants (no discard tube drawn)
Refrigerated, chilled on ice, heated or frozen
Centrifuged specimens
An appropriate blood sample not allowed to equilibrate from time of draw (10 minutes for citrated tubes) or is too old and past stability time frame for test ordered.
Samples sent via the tube station unless approved by the Pathologist or validation has been performed.
Hemolyzed
Hemodiluted

Reference Range
Clinical Significance
Provides a functional measurement of clotting factors, platelets, fibrinogen, and clot lysis in the presence of heparin. Profile is intended for use in patients where heparin may be present and who are at risk of coagulopathy.
