Lavender 6.0 mL is usable, but not preferred.  Red top tubes are NOT the specimen of choice.  Please contact the Blood Bank concerning samples collected in these tubes.


Instructions
None - Special Blood Bank Identification process is not required for IAT testing. However, specimens collected without the Blood Bank Identification process cannot be used for later crossmatch testing.


Report Available
Routine results are available in less than 4 hours.  For STAT expected turn-around time, please see hospital specific lab information on the Banner Intranet.  A positive antibody screen will require additional testing and additional time.
 


Reference Range


Clinical Significance
If the IAT is positive, an antibody panel is tested to identify the specific antibodies involved.  A positive antibody screen indicates an extended turn-around time for crossmatched blood products.
