Preferred Specimen
Pink 6.0 mL


Other Acceptable Specimens
Lavender 6.0 mL - Usable, but not preferred.
Red top tubes are NOT the specimen of choice and can cause false results. Blood Bank will routinely reject red top samples for DAT testing.


Instructions
None - Special Blood Bank Identification process is not required for DAT testing. However, specimens collected without the Blood Bank Identification process cannot be used for later crossmatch testing.

Clinical Significance
A positive Direct Antiglobulin Test result will be called to the caregiver.  If IgG is positive and the patient has recently been transfused, elution studies may be performed to identify the antibody involved.
