Instructions
For samples drawn by venipuncture, use a 21-gauge needle. The first 3 mL of blood should not be used for TEG testing due to the possible contaminants in the sample during normal phlebotomy. Draw a discard tube if the only sample being drawn will be for TEG testing.
For line draws the first 7 mL of blood should be discarded.
Note: Transport at room temperature immediately after collection. DO NOT CENTRIFUGE.

A blood sample collected in a citrated tube and not allowed to equilibrate for 10 minutes from time of draw or was collected more than 2 hours ago.
A blood sample collected in sodium heparin tube not allowed to equilibrate for 15 minutes from time of draw or past stability
Samples sent via the tube system unless approved by the Pathologist or a validation has been performed.
Samples drawn in outdated/expired tubes
