This test will be reflexed directly from bacterial isolates in cultures that test intermediate or resistant to carbapenem antibiotics but only on the following organisms/organism group: Enterobacterales, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Acinetobacter baumannii.

Preferred Specimen
Paired Peri-Rectal Swab


Instructions
Collection of a paired perirectal swab: Carefully insert both swab tips no more than 1 cm into the anal opening before the
anal sphincter and rotate gently.

Specimen Stability
Swabs in the transport tube can be stored at 15–28 °C for up to five days.


Reject Criteria (Eg, hemolysis? Lipemia? Thaw/Other?)
Swabs over soiled with stool will be rejected. A light covering of stool is not necessary but acceptable.
