MessageWelcome to the joint directory of services!
The purpose of this joint directory is to provide up to date information on tests that can be ordered in CPRS. This directory is divided into two main sections: general information about each department in the Boston Area Clinical Laboratories and a test listing of all tests performed on site or sent to commercial or VA reference laboratories. Test information on in-house tests is updated daily and reference lab test information is updated weekly.
The general information sections at the top of the directory listing include laboratory policies and general information about each laboratory section.
The individual test listings include:
The Boston Area Consolidated Laboratory serves the nine VISN 1 VA laboratories and their satellite outpatient clinics as a reference laboratory. The clinical laboratories in VISN 1 perform roughly 4,000,000 tests per year. They consist of a core of highly dedicated personnel.

Collection sample and alternate collection sample(s) Collection instructions Transport instructions Reference ranges Alternate test names Rejection criteria Clinical informationThis manual will help you understand how the Boston Area Consolidated Laboratory (BACL) operates and will provide valuable information regarding the services offered. The BACL main laboratory is located at the West Roxbury division of the VA Boston Healthcare System (BHS). The manual should be used as a first hand source for all questions concerning range and parameters of service, laboratory reference ranges, specimen requirements, special collection and handling of laboratory requests.

- The BACL Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Services of VISN 1 are accredited and inspected by the following organizations:
- Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations
- American Association of Blood Banks (AABB)
- The Food and Drug Administration for Blood Bank (FDA)
- The BACL Pathology and Laboratory Services of VISN 1 participate in the CAP survey program for proficiency testing.
- The BACL Pathology and Laboratory Services of VISN 1 participate in Quality Assurance/Quality Control programs.
