Clinical Significance
Reactive results will be titered.  Confirmed reactive results indicate present or past infection with Treponema pallidum (syphilis).  False reactive results can be seen with leprosy, malaria, toxoplasmosis, infectious mononucleosis, lupus, viral pneumonia, tuberculosis, pregnancy and aging.
