Preferred Specimen
1 mL platelet-poor plasma (LB, light blue-top tube, 3.2% sodium citrate), room temperature
Minimum Volume
0.5 mL
Other Acceptable Specimens
Serum: Completely fill the Vacutainer and allow the blood to clot in an upright position for at least 30 minutes, but not longer than 1 hour before centrifugation.
Transfer the serum to a plastic transport tube.
Transfer the serum to a plastic transport tube.
Instructions
Platelet-poor plasma: Centrifuge light blue-top tube 15 minutes at approx. 1500 x g within 60 minutes of collection.
Using a plastic pipette, remove plasma, taking care to avoid the WBC/platelet buffy layer and place into a plastic vial.
Centrifuge a second time and transfer platelet-poor plasma into a new plastic vial. Plasma must be free of platelets (<10,000/mcL).

Clinical Significance
Phosphatidylserine/Prothrombin (PS/PT) Antibody (IgG, IgM) - Antiphospholipid Syndrome (APS) is an acquired autoimmune thrombophilia characterized by thrombosis (venous and/or arterial or microvascular) and/or pregnancy loss or morbidity in association with persistent positivity of a heterogenous group of autoantibodies known as anti-phospholipid antibodies (APL).
