SPUTUM FOR EOSIN COUNT
Test CodeSPTEOS
Preferred Specimen
SPUTUM
Clinical Significance
Reliable diagnostic information is readily obtained from careful microscopic studies of sputum specimens. Usually, a sputum smear for eosinophils is ordered by the physician to differentiate bronchitis from asthma. The sputum from asthmatics is distinctive in the number of and kinds of white blood cells and other cells derived from their respiratory system. Eosinophils are present in sputum in conjunction with an asthmatic condition.
