Clinical Significance
In vitro diagnostic test for the quantitative measurement of vitamin B12 in human serum, used in the diagnosis of B12 deficiency. Vitamin B12 deficiency is a cause of megaloblastic anemia, and may lead to abnormal neurologic symptoms. Folic acid, methylmalonic acid, and homocysteine levels may aid in specifying the diagnosis.
