Instructions
Please note: This Test Code should be used for specimens from sources other than blood or specimens found on the skin surface. Fungus cultures and smears from all skin, hair, and nail sources should be ordered using Test Code 13303 [Fungus Culture and Smear (Skin, Hair and Nails)], and cultures on blood ordered as 6024 (Fungus Culture, Blood). Clinicians who send tissues, biopsies, or aspirates for deep fungus should label the specimens as such, and continue to order Test Code 870 (Fungus Culture and Smear, Sources other than Skin). Primary specimen form any source in sterile, leak-proof container. Tissues or brushes in transport medium or in a small amopunt of sterile saline are acceptable. If KOH is requested, a second swab must be submitted. For Skin/Hair /Nails, refer to 4605X or 39505X. Please contact the Microbiology Department for any other questions.
