Instructions
Blue-top tubes (3.2% Sodium Citrate) must be completely filled (to the 'fill-line'). If a Blue-top tube is the only tube being collected, it is recommended that you draw and DISCARD a minimum of 5 mL prior to collecting. If a specimen must be collected through an indwelling catheter, IV, or arterial line, flush with 5 mL of saline and discard the first 5 mL of blood (or six dead space volumes of the catheter) prior to drawing the testing specimen. Flushing with heparin should be avoided.
