Platelet Antibody, Direct, Flow Cytometry
Test CodePLTD
Quest Code
5019
CPT Codes
86023
Preferred Specimen
7 mL whole blood collected in an EDTA (lavender-top) tube
Minimum Volume
5 mL
Instructions
Do not refrigerate or freeze.
Specimens submitted in ACD (yellow-top) tubes will no longer be accepted because of the high incidence of platelet clumping associated with this anticoagulant. If the platelet count is less than 20,000/ccm, submit 7-10 mL of whole blood.
Pediatric minimum volume: The minimum volume is platelet count dependent. If possible, submit at least 1 mL EDTA blood.

Reference Range
Anti-IgG | Negative |
Clinical Significance
Thrombocytopenia that is refractory to platelet transfusions may be due to direct platelet antibody. Testing is useful to differentiate immune from non-immune disorders.
