Clinical Significance
Platelet activation and aggregation play an
important part in the pathogenesis and complications of coronary
artery disease and in the development of acute thrombotic events. For
this reason, platelet aggregation inhibition has become a fundamental
therapeutic goal. Clopidogrel selectively inhibits ADP-induced
platelet aggregation by alteration of the platelet receptor P2Y12;
whole blood aggregation by impedance is used to measure clopidogrel's
anti-platelet effect.
