Preferred Specimen
Urine 24 hour collection and 0.6 ml of whole blood (0.3 mL of serum or plasma)


Minimum Volume
Urine 24 hour collection and 0.2 mL of whole blood (0.1 mL of serum/plasma)


Instructions
Refrigerate during collection. Include height and weight information.  Blood must be drawn within 48 hours of 24 hour urine collection.


Transport Container
Serum separator (gold top). Lithium Heparin (mint or green top), EDTA (lavendar top)  and 24 hr urine container


Transport Temperature
Refrigerated


Specimen Stability

Room Temperature: 3 days
Refrigerated: 5 days
Frozen: Indefinite at -18 C

Inpatient turn around time: stat 2 hours, routine 4 hours.   Outpatient specimens received by noon will be reported by 4:30 p.m.  Specimens received after noon will be reported by the next morning.
