Preferred: 1.0 ml of whole blood (0.5 mL of serum/plasma)


Minimum Volume
0.6 mL of whole blood (0.3 mL of serum/plasma)


Instructions
Avoid hemolysis.  Separate serum from cells within two hours of coolection..

Serum separator (gold top) or for inpatients/MSTI/ED only lithium heparin (green or mint top), EDTA

Room Temperature: 3 hours
Refrigerated: 5 days

Report Available
Inpatient turn around time: Routine 3 hours, stat 45 minutes.  Outpatient specimens received by noon will be reported by 4:30 p.m.  Specimens received after noon will be reported by the next morning.
