8 to 10 ml of whole blood per vial. Submit both aerobic and anaerobic vials


Instructions
Document if endocarditis is suspected. Specimen will be held for 4 weeks. Two to three sets in a 24 hour period are recommended for optimum recovery of organisms. Includes aerobic and anaerobic cultures.

Reports issued at 24, 48, 72 hours, 4 and 5 days.(4 weeks if "SBE").
