Preferred Specimen
Preferred: 2.0 ml of whole blood (1.0 mL of plasma).


Minimum Volume
Minimum: 1.0 mL of whole blood (0.5 mL of plasma)


Instructions
Immediately place in an intact vacuum tube. The tube must be on ice and delivered immediately to the lab. Microtainers are not acceptable.  If a specimen is to be transported to the laboratory the specimen must be separated from the cells within 15 minutes of collection.

Refrigerated: 20 minutes for whole blood, 3 hours for plasma

Report Available
Inpatient turn around time: Routine 3 hours, stat 30 minutes. Outpatient specimens received by noon will be reported by 4:30. Specimens received after noon will be reported by the next morning.
