Preferred Specimen
2.0 ml of whole blood (1.0 mL of serum).  Sample must be protected from light.


Minimum Volume
0.6 mL of whole blood (0.3 mL of serum).  Sample must be protected from light.


Instructions
Contact pharmacy for draw times.  Sample must be protected from light.  Separate serum/plasma from cells within 4 hours of collection.


Transport Container
No Additive Red Top or Serum Separator (gold top), EDTA (lavendar top)

Refrigerated


Specimen Stability
Room Temperature: 2 hours
Refrigerated: 3 days
Frozen: 14 days

Set up daily.


Report Available
Inpatient turn around time: Stat 30 minutes, routine 3 hours.  Outpatient testing received by noon will be reported by 4:30 p.m. Specimens received after noon will be reported by the next morning.
