Testing will reflex to a microscopic when the following criteria are met: urine is not clear, it is positive for blood, nitrites, leukocyte esterase, and/or protein.


Preferred Specimen
10 to 12 ml random urine


Minimum Volume
UAP Tube: 7 mls
No Additive Urine tube or Screw Top Container: 2 mL of random urine

UAP tube (yellow/cherry red top), No Additive Urine (red/clear top), Screw top urine container


Transport Temperature
Room Temperature: UAP tube
Refrigerated:  No Additive Urine (red/clear top), Screw top urine container

Inpatient turn around time: Stat 30 minutes, routine 3 hours.  Outpatient testing received by noon will be reported by 4:30 p.m. Specimens received after noon will be reported by the next morning.
