Preferred Specimen
(3) 4.5 ml Na Citrate, 4.5 ml in EDTA.
Minimum Volume
(2) 4.5 ml Na Citrate, 4.5 ml in EDTA.
Instructions
Collect full sodium citrate tubes (blue top). Send to lab immediately. If the blue top needs to be transported, centrifuge the specimen, aliquot the specimen into a separate container, spin again, aliquot the specimen into 4 new containers and freeze.
If Lupus is positive specimen referred for cardiolipin & antiphospholipid abs. If APC is positive specimen will be referred for Factor V Leiden, if all test in the panel are negative the specimen will be referred for Prothrombin Mutation.

Specimen Stability
Blue top must be centrifuged within one hour of collection.
Room Temperature: 4 hours (centrifuged)

Reject Criteria (Eg, hemolysis? Lipemia? Thaw/Other?)
Specimens which are not properly filled do not contain the proper anti-coagulant to blood ratio and are therefore rejected. Hemolyzed and clotted specimens are also unacceptable for testing.
