Instructions
Specimens must be hand-delivered to the laboratory. Use of 21 gauge needle is preferred for drawing and butterfly needles may not be used. The pneumatic tube system must not be used for specimen transport.
 
Also specimens must be kept at room temperature at all times.
 
It is vital that the specimen is treated gently. If it is agitated, the platelets will become activated and result in inaccurate results. Also, the larger bore of needle the better so as not to activate platelets.

Sodium Citrate (blue top) and  EDTA (lavender top)

Room temperature.


Specimen Stability
Room Temperature: 4 hours


Reject Criteria (Eg, hemolysis? Lipemia? Thaw/Other?)
Specimens drawn with butterfly needles.

Routine 4 hours and stat 1 hour.




Clinical Significance
This test replaces bleeding time testing.
