Specimen source is required.

 

Submit only 1 of the following specimens:

 

Specimen Type: Bronchoalveolar lavage or bronchial washing

Container/Tube: Screw-capped, sterile container

Specimen Volume: A minimum of 5 mL

Collection Instructions: 

1. Aseptically collect specimen. Avoid contaminating bronchoscope with tap water.

2. Label container with patient’s name (first and last), date and actual time of collection, and type of specimen.

 

Specimen Type: Bronchial brushing

Container/Tube: Screw-capped, sterile container

Specimen Volume: Entire collection

Collection Instructions: Label container with patient’s name (first and last), date and actual time of collection, and type of specimen.

 

Specimen Type: Lung aspirate or biopsy

Container/Tube: Screw-capped, sterile container

Specimen Volume: Entire collection

Collection Instructions:

1. The physician-collected specimen may be placed directly in a sterile container.

2. Add sterile saline to keep specimen moist.
3. Label container with patient’s name (first and last), date and actual time of collection, and type of specimen.
