To distinguish between acute and chronic elevations of Cardiac Troponin (cTn), the Universal Definition of MI stresses the need for serial testing to detect a rise and/or fall of cTn above the 99th percentile upper reference limit of 22 ng/L, males and 14 ng/L, females consistent with clinical assessment, including ischemic symptoms and electrocardiographic changes
