Culture, Virus, Blood

Message
Note: VIROLOGY MUST BE NOTIFIED BEFORE ORDERING THIS TEST. Blood is generally not a good specimen from which to recover viruses due to low or absent viral titer and the intermittent nature of viral shed in blood. Depending on the virus suspected, other anatomic sites (ie, nasopharynx, stool, etc.) may yield higher titers of virus and more reliable results. This specimen type should be a last resort and not a first choice.
