Preferred Specimen
Submit only 1 of the following specimens:

Cervical or Vaginal Specimen (Females Only)
Container/Tube: Culture transport container
Specimen Volume: Transport swab or mini-tip swab
Collection Instructions: 1. Do not use lubricant on speculum. 2. Cervical mucous should be removed first before inserting swab into endocervical canal. 3. Move swab from side-to-side. Avoid touching swab to uninfected surface. 4. Label container with patient’s name (first and last) and date and actual time of collection.
Note: Specimen source is required.

Rectal Swab
Container/Tube: Culture transport container
Specimen Volume: Culture swab
Collection Instructions: 1. Pass swab beyond anal sphincter. 2. Rotate swab and withdraw. 3. Replace swab in culture transport container. 4. Crush ampule to ensure specimen preservation. 5. Label container with patient’s name (first and last) and date and actual time of collection.
