Clinical Significance
Useful for detecting polysaccharide antigens associated with Cryptococcus neoformans infections. This test has a much greater sensitivity than the India Ink wet mount. Fungal cultures should also be performed in patients who are suspected of having cryptococcosis. Determination of antigen concentration by 2-fold serial dilutions (titer) is useful to monitor response to therapy during the course of Cryptococcus meningitidis
