Collection Instructions:
1. Fresh, unfixed tissue is essential for flow cytometry studies, which are done at the discretion of pathologist.
2. Proper fixation requires slicing with a scalpel blade across long axis at thickness no >3 mm, that large volumes of fixative be used in proportion to tissue volume, and that slices not be stacked in fixative.
3. Buffered neutral formalin is preservative of choice.
4. Label container with patient’s name (first and last) and date and actual time of collection.
5. Notify histology technician or pathologist that specimen has been brought to Surgical Pathology Laboratory.
