Preferred Specimen
Blood for D-Dimer, Fibrinogen, PT, and PTT
Container/Tube: Light blue-top (citrate) tube-Grossly hemolyzed, clotted blood, or an insufficient specimen is not acceptable.
Specimen Volume: Full tube
Collection Instructions: Blood to anticoagulant ratio is critical.
Note: 1. Draw a discard tube prior to light blue-top (citrate) tube. 2. Results may be affected by hematocrit >50%. 3. Tube should remain stoppered. 4. Specimen is stable for 24 hours if tube remains unopened and unspun. 5. Label specimen appropriately (blood for D-dimer, fibrinogen, PT, and PTT).
