Preferred Specimen
Submit only 1 of the following specimens:
Plasma
Container/Tube: Grey-top (potassium oxalate/sodium fluoride) tube(s)
Specimen Volume: 3 mL of plasma
Collection Instructions: Do not use tourniquet.
Note: 1. Indicate plasma. 2. Label specimen appropriately (plasma). 3. Place specimen on ice and deliver to the laboratory immediately
If testing cannot be performed immediately after collection; immediately chill the specimen and centrifuge within 15 minutes of collection. Separate the plasma from the cells and refrigerate plasma for up to 24 hours.
Spinal Fluid
Container/Tube: Sterile vial(s)
Specimen Volume: 1 mL of spinal fluid
Note: 1. Indicate spinal fluid. 2. Label specimen appropriately (spinal fluid). 3. Place specimen on ice and deliver to the laboratory immediately.
