Reference Range
A negative direct Coombs is a normal value.
A positive direct Coombs test indicates a maternal antibody is coated on the fetal cells, and an evaluation of this antibody is automatically performed

Clinical Significance
Useful for detection of maternal antibody bound in vivo to fetal cells in cases of hemolytic disease of the newborn or neonatal jaundice. It is also used to determine if mother is a Rh (D) immune globulin (human) candidate
