Instructions
Collect blood by venipuncture into plain tubes (without anticoagulant), or heparinized tubes, and separate the serum from the cells. Overnight fasting is required.

Clinical Significance
Total insulin levels are useful in assessing the available insulin in serum, including antibody-bound insulin. Serum insulin levels are useful in the differential diagnosis of fasting hypoglycemia.
