Instructions
Collect fluid during sterile lumbar puncture, ventricular or suboccipital tap. Place the fluid in a sterile screw cap tube and deliver to Microbiology immediately. Tube #2, #3 or #4 are preferable when a series of sample tubes have been collected.

Deliver to Lab STAT : Spec. stable for 1 hour at room temp.

Critical Value: All positives


Clinical Significance
Recovery of bacteria from cerebrospinal fluid may support clinical evidence of bacterial meningitis.
