Clinical Significance
During infection, quantities of capsular polysaccharide surface antigens from Cryptococcus neoformans are shed into the surrounding body fluids, including cerebrospinal fluid and serum. Rapid qualitative detection of these antigens facilitates diagnosis of often life-threatening diseases.
