Inpatient and outpatients: Must submit both anaerobe transport tube and aerobic transport swab.
Instructions
*Fluid = Any fluid (as much as possible up to 10 ml) from a closed body cavity, except blood, CSF STATE SOURCE. Recommended for biopsy, deep abscesses, dirty penetrating wounds, fluid or tissue from normally sterile closed spaces

'Anaerobic Collection System™ and Transport swab or aspirate in sterile container,
Transport Temperature
Anaerobic Collection System™ refrigerated or room temperature up to 72 hours. Aerobic transport medium, syringe transport of fluid,or tissue refrigerated or room temperature up to 1 hour.
Reference Range
Critical Value: Positive smear or culture of any sterile body fluid.
Clinical Significance
Anaerobic bacteria cause a variety of human infections. Proper specimen collection and transport, media and incubation are important criteria for the recovery of anaerobes.
